Had a trip back to the Eden Project after 7 years. We set off at ten and arrived early altough had to go through the village of Luxylan where I had been on holiday 20 years ago.
We parked up and took the bendy bus down to the project where we had lunch and then a look around the various domes including the tropical dome where Holly wanted to have a game of chess is the jungle hut and then we saw a huge dinasour roaring across the dome and chasing everybody in sight - quite convincing too!
The next day (Wednesday) we went for a local walk along the cliffs which wasa little wet - Holly still insisting that I walk in the middle. We came to a little inlet with a national trust sign and stream and walked to the beach nearby and sat and had our sanwiches whilst Holly looked at rockpools.
Thursday saw us at the lost gardens of Hellegan near St Austell. It alwys reminds me of a film set and having watched Alice in Wonderland more than a few times I half expected the griffen or mad hatter to appear from behind a bush. The gardens may have been lost once but were even in Feb popular with the tourists but we walked along by the ponds (which I remembered as being lakes!) and through the lost valley to the charcoal burner and back up by the scultures and ended up in the cafe. We had our lunch earlier in a small shed in the garden.
Friday took us to Sennen Cove which was extremely wild today. Some huge waves and I enjoyed the rugged cliffs e.t.c. and we walked along the side. Surprised at how many other visitors were around. We ended up in a beach side cafe initially wanting to stay for lunch but nearly fainted when we saw the prices at £20 a head. It was clearly there to appeal to the wealthier tourists so we left and found a pleasant and ancient pub at Sennen where we had our meals at £5 a head which was far more affordable and with more atmosphere too. We then had quick peel at Landsend and then drove back to Gweek which is a wooded inlet near Cadgewith and went in the seal sanctuary. I had misread the website which I thought said free but actually that was the car park and the entrance fee came to £44 for all three of us. We walked in and the weather really got stuck in - unfortunate as everything was outside. We saw the seals - hospital and pools and then walked out to the otters which was fine.
We were quite glad to get back to the cottage even though we had to watch Alice in Wonderland again - the little girl in the film reminds me very much of Holly!
The next day we made our way home feeling sad to leave Tremane cottage but had a pasty and drink in the Jamaica inn on the way back.
