After a very clear warm October yesterday it was only natural that today on my day off it should be a wet and windy day. Never mind - this didn't deter me. I met Vicky and Holly at the caravan in Brean and Holly opened the gates for me and we headed off for Holford in the Quantocks. Vic and Holly were dressed appropriately whilst I had to make do with my jeans and doctor Martens. We got there and ate our sandwiches in the car - I had two egg roles and some cakes which built up the necessary energy to walk up the valley.
I remembered this as the walk I did with the orhcestra several years ago and also a walk Vicky and I did many years ago when Holly was very small. We set off up through a wooded coombe with spooky sounds and baying of dogs. We climbed up an escarpement and were surpised to see a stag looking at us before running off into the woods.
We headed up into the open exposed mountain side when the mist came down and I actualy started to get worried and thinking about mountain rescue teams and where I would be having my tea (if any).
Not to worry Vickies navigating was spot on unlike my own. We walked for osme time and Holly was a litte afraid but some interesting noises were made from the woods.
We eventually headed on downwards into the coombe and followed the river until we had a break sitting on a tree.
We eventually made our way back and saw two lost dogs which looked like hunting hounds - very hungry and one of which look like she had a litter of pups. One of them followed us to the car and wanted to get in the car - had I have been on my own I would have taken her to the RSPCA myself but there was no room. However we did give her something to eat and I later rang the RSCPA and council.
We then made our way to Kilve beach where Holly went fossil hunting and Vicky slipped and fell. We played at skimming pebbles before heading off to Burnham on Sea to havea chineese platter meal in a chineese by the sea fornt.
