Steam and Sandbanks

The waverley is a nice civilised way to travel - unless it hits a sand bank! I had dreams of swimming for miles or a offering my place in the boat to Kate Winslet - or maybe not! The afternoon started off interesting! I was having my lunch under the seawall when a sudden volley of water hit me on the head - some idiot had thrown the contents of his drnik over the side without thinking somebody was below. He apologised and I admit I was bit grumpy! However when off to pier platform to buy my ticket. It was like something from Colonial Days with even the young people dressing and sounding that way.
However I love the Waverley - a very interesting peice of machinary - as I stood in the engine room looking at the crankshafts and pistons driving the wheels outside. It was very hot down there.
I stayed out on top on the outgoing journey and saw both the Holme Islands - and would like to have landed. However we made our way back and I decided to have fish and chips in the dinning room because I thought It would be too late to purchase anything for tea.
However as I was stood on the deck with the engineer talking to some old boy former engineers I saw a large wave head towards us and the boat ground to a halt! The boat just stayed on the bank for a while although nobody really knew what had happened until the boat moved and the captain spoke and told us the boat was being searched for holes! It turned out the boat was unscathed but we had to float around in the channel for a while until the tide changed.
It was about 8 instead of 5 by the time I arrived back at Clevedon and too late to get to practise.
